Real Madrid have signed Dutch international Lines Berenstein from VfL Wolfsburg on a three-year contract. Berenstein is expected to fill the void left by the departing Caroline Weir and Naomi Feller.
Real Madrid announced the signing of Netherlands international Lines Berenstein on a three-year contract until the summer of 2029. The 29-year-old versatile striker joins the Spanish side for free after the expiry of his previous contract. Berenstain has been a consistent goal threat since joining VfL Wolfsburg in 2024, scoring 34 goals in 62 appearances for Germany. Last season, he was the league's top scorer with 17 goals. Real Madrid signed Berenstein after several players left the team recently. Earlier this week it was announced that Scotland's Caroline Weir would move to French side Olympique Lyonnais, while Naomi Feller also decided to leave the club after four years to pursue new opportunities. Due to the departure of these two strikers, Berenstain is expected to fit naturally into Real Madrid's plans. Berenstein began his career in the Netherlands with ADO Den Haag and FC Twente before breaking into the German scene by joining Bayern Munich in 2017. He won the league title in the 2020/21 season and then returned to Germany via Juventus. On the international stage, Berenstein has played in more than 100 matches and made his national team debut in a friendly match against South Africa in 2016. His first goal was scored against Scotland in the same season, and he also led the Netherlands national team to victory at the 2017 home Euros. At the 2019 Women's World Cup, she played in all of the Netherlands' matches and advanced to the finals, but lost to the United States.
